About the artist:
Lynn Davis “Tex” Mattocks was born January 16 , 1935 in Grenola, Kansas. He started competing in Junior Rodeos in Kansas at the age of 16 years old and went pro at 19. Mattocks participated in the Rancho California Rodeo which took place Nov. 15-16, 1969, and was the first Rodeo Cowboys Association rodeo held in Temecula. Competing in several California Rodeos where he won titles in Bull Riding and Bronco Riding. He promoted several benefit rodeos, even saving several of the riders from serious injuries with his antics as “Bronco” the clown. Lynn represented Flying U Rodeo Company in Southern California helping produce many rodeos all over the state including military rodeos. Eventually being inducted into the Military Rodeo Hall of Fame. Lynn documented and photographed California Rodeos through from 1970’s through 1980’s even being featured in Rodeo Sports News Magazine. In 2015, he bequeathed his cameras and rodeo negatives to his granddaughter Marissa Gonzales, where together they cataloged, scanned and printed his work. Lynn Mattocks passed July 24, 2022. His granddaughter continues to share his work and knowledge of rodeos.
